So anyway, my favorite little German skater, Stefan Lindemann, won the
bronze medal! It was the surprise of the event and I'm so happy for him! The ladies were also
fantastic and I'm very happy for Shizuka Arakawa, who won - she skated wonderfully!
In work-related news, one of our foreign teachers up and left without warning a couple weeks
ago. So while we're looking for a new teacher, there'll be an emergency teacher coming in,
possibly a different one every week or two. Things will be interesting for a while.
Sakura (cherry blossoms) are starting to come out - they are beautiful! They will probably
be at their peak next week. There's a big park near the mall that has lots of them.

It's been damn cold lately (I could see my breath the other night), but yesterday was a
tad warmer and today is pretty warm, so I hope the trend continues. Cherry blossoms should
start coming out in a couple weeks, I can't wait!
Last Wednesday, I went to visit a public high school in a nearby city. It was my first time
at a Japanese public school. It was about what I expected; I was relieved to see that the
classrooms had heaters/air conditioners. I'd heard that a lot of public schools don't have
them. Anyway, I met three seniors (students, not old people) that were more than happy to
show my friend and I around and practice their English with me - they were pretty good, actually.
One girl even had some knowledge of figure skating! LOL The visit kinda renewed my interest
in possibly teaching at a public school in the future...I'm still not crazy about the idea of
starting work at 8:00 or so, though...:-)
I've renewed my contract until December, which means I have 9 more months at this school.
Doesn't seem so long....After that, I plan to go back to the US for anywhere from 3 weeks
to 5 months. I have no definite plans yet, but I'm assuming I'll end up back in Japan. I
can't imagine leaving this country for good.
